Sylvia Jeffreys shares her ‘cake fail’ as she plans ahead for her six-month-old’s first birthday
"Absolute disaster!"
While Sylvia Jeffreys has only just celebrated her son reaching the half-year mark, the mum-of-one is honing her baking skills in prep for Oscar’s first birthday.
And by the looks of Sylvia’s cake-making skills, she may just need the extra time in the kitchen.
Sharing her cake fail to Instagram stories, the Today Extra host showed off her hilarious attempt at creating the number one cake from the iconic Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cake Book.
The 34-year-old shared what the cake should look like by showing the recipe page from her copy of the birthday cake cookbook before showing off the final result of her version.
“Ok, so my #yourcake journey begins here. This was supposed to be my an easy warm up before attempting something more complex like the Choo Choo train,” Sylvia captioned the image of the cookbook spread.
“So this is where things start to go downhill. I didn’t have the correct sized baking tin. So I tried to wing it,” she then captions an image of two different sized cakes.
Sylvia’s desired outcome.
Oops. But, not bad for ‘winging it’!
Sylvia, who shares her son Oscar with husband, Peter Stefanovic, then unveils the finished “embarrassing attempt” at the cake and yes, ok, it’s not perfect.
“Absolute disaster. Stuffed up the cutting, ran out of icing,” Sylvia laughs. “The only way is up. Rubbish!”
Ok, it doesn’t look exactly like the one from the book.
On a positive note, Sylvia said the cake still tasted ‘good’ and in the end, that’s really what matters.
The final taste test: Winning!
Aside from honing her baking skills ahead of Oscar’s first birthday, there was another amazing reason why Sylvia is trying her hand at baking.
The mum-of-one is an ambassador Youngcare and she is taking part in the #YOURCAKE Challenge.
