On your marks, get set, PLAY!

Play is fundamental to every child, helping them develop crucial ‘superpowers’, or skills, that benefit them both now and in the future.

It’s not only children that benefit from playtime. Play makes the whole family happier, builds stronger family bonds and improves wellbeing.

However, finding time to play can be difficult as family schedules are packed with everyday responsibilities and working long hours and chores proving the biggest barriers to family play, according to parents.

New local research from the LEGO Group has found that children are spending just 2% of their week (equivalent to 7 hours) playing.

On October 12, 2023 LEGO Australia celebrated World Play Day – a day dedicated to the benefits and joy that play brings, and encouraging families around the world to unlock their superpower through play.

To mark event, LEGO Australia has transformed Pitt Street Mall into ‘Play Street Mall’, a life-sized playground, in partnership with the City of Sydney.

‘Play Street Mall’ will disrupt the norm and awaken the fun in everyone with childhood favourites such as hopscotch to soccer goals and more. ‘Play Street Mall’ will be free to attend from October 12 – 14.

If you can’t make it to ‘Play Street Mall’, you can have your own fun at home with some of the most popular LEGO sets across the country. Shop our guide below…
