Four weeks out of hospital, new mum Leah Itsines and baby Gia succumb to COVID
It's been a rocky start to motherhood - but the mum keeps smiling!
Seven weeks after the birth of her first child, daughter Gigi, foodie and entrepreneur Leah Itsines has joined the legions of new mums taken out by COVID. As if parenting an infant isn’t enough!
Sharing a post to Instagram the 28-year-old sister of fitness model and Sweat co-founder Kayla Itsines revealed “COVID finally caught up to us” sharing that she’d managed to avoid catching it for the past two years.
Leah Itsines has succumbed to COVID having managed to avoid it for the past two years, but as with everything, she’s smiling through it!
“We were stopped in our tracks today” she told her 600,000 followers on April 28, 2022. “LOTSSSSS of rest, fluids and cuddles for us while we ride this wave and hopefully we recover quickly & be able to get back into the swing of things.”
Since then, the cook and founder of BARE guides has shared photos of the healthy soups she’s been making, commenting that one in particular “looks like š©Ā but tastes delish”. Something that her fiance and business partner Mitch Caon can’t confirm as he has lost his sense of taste!
The ever-smiley mum beamed in the photos she shared as she described her COVID symptoms: “…a cough, sore throat, bones feel cold and headaches”. At that point, she said that Mitch was doing fine and that baby Gigi “is fussier than usual but doing great”.
Previously, the frequent poster shared a cute pic of her cuddled up with her little girl and captioned it “When she gets his name before I do”. While Mitch is keen to marry sooner rather than later, it took the birth of Gigi to make Leah consider getting the plans underway!
“Crocs on and ready to go,” said Leah, a few days before the virus struck. “Iāve been cleared to exercise and I am SO happy about it! This morning we walked to grab some coffee to get some fresh air and I loved it!”
Much like her sister, Leah loves to train and stay fit and while she’s looking forward to using weights again, she’s going to go slow and steady with regular long pram walks and seeing her physio once a week.
It’s going to be a while now before she can get back into exercise, but when she does, you can guarantee she’ll do it with a smile.
Seven weeks after the c-section birth of Gigi on March 7, new mum Leah had been given the all-clear to start exercising again, but then COVID hit…
When Gigi was born on March 7, Leah and Mitch weren’t able to bring her home for several weeks – a heartwrencing time for all.
Throughout the tortuous almost three weeks that followed, the smiley entrepreneur regularly shared her thoughts on her Instagram story, as well as sharing super cute photos of her little girl with her doting dad.
Sharing pics of the āthank youāĀ hamperĀ sheād prepared for the NICU staff, Leah talked about how Gigi might have to come home on oxygen and that theyād cope with that as they just want their baby home.
Their dreams finally came true, and they took cute Gigi home on March 27, 2022.
Leah and Mitch were able to bring Gigi home three weeks after her birth.
Leah shared a numberĀ of emotional stories to Instagram asking for understanding that if she appeared busy while her baby was in hospital simply because she needed to stay distracted during a tremendously difficult time.
The reasons for GigiāsĀ extended hospital stay weren’t shared however the new mum posted this in the first few days
āG is still being monitored but is doing AMAZINGLY! Weāre not going to get into the whys etc because I just need a little time to work it all out ourselves and work with the present ā but itās nothing sinister and sheās ticking all the boxes to (hopefully) come home to us soon all happy, delicious and looking like a little snackā.
