Kmart’s stunning homewares range with First Nations artist Kyralee Shields

NAIDOC Week is a great time to support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

Kyralee Shields, a proud Dharug and Darkinjung artist, has teamed up with Kmart to create a gorgeous homewares range.

Drawing inspiration from her family’s history, including her mother’s experience with the Stolen Generations, Kyralee’s art captures the beauty, strength, and resilience of her cultural background while also acknowledging the hardships her family has faced.

As a mum-of-three, Kyralee aims to instill a deep sense of cultural pride in her children and future generations through her artwork. She hopes that her creations will empower them to freely embrace and express their Indigenous heritage.

Speaking of the partnership with Kmart, Kyralee says, “Collaborating with Kmart is a dream come true. It’s allowed me to work with a brand I grew up with who provide quality, on-trend products that are accessible to a wide demographic. It has enabled me to share my art with a wider audience.”

The Kyralee x Kmart Mudyin Ngurrawa Collection extends across bedding, home décor, living and dining and is available online and in stores now.

When is NAIDOC Week?

NAIDOC Week is an Australian celebration that runs from July 7 to 14. NAIDOC stands for National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee, originally known as the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee.

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. The 2024 NAIDOC Week theme is ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud’.
