Joel McHale and wife, Sarah Williams are couple goals
He took on the Tiger King, but at home Joel McHale is a real pussycat.
There’s something about a relationship that survives the turmoil of Hollywood that warms the cockles of the heart, and there’s no finer example of that than the 25 year marriage of actor and comedian, Joel McHale and his gorgeous wife, Sarah Williams.
50-year-old Joel’s famed role as Jeff Winger on hilarious sitcom Community as well as multiple movie appearances and his recent gig hosting the Netflix special, The Tiger King and I makes him a pretty well-known face on the Tinseltown circuit.
However, Sarah who has been by his side since the mid ’90s is more inclined to step away from the limelight, content to focus on the family they’ve built with their two sons, Edward “Eddie” Roy and Isaac Hayden.

Joel McHale and Sarah Williams share a love story for the ages …
When couples get matching haircuts
We’ll forgive Joel and Sarah here, because it was the ’90s.
Yep, it was back in 1995 when this twinny pair met for the first time.
Joel was a fresh graduate of the University of Washington when he saw Sarah and from all accounts it was was love at first sight for the actor.
In a 2011 interview with Redbook, Joel says that when he first saw Sarah, he asked her friend if they could go on a date.
“I called her friend and asked if I could ask her out. She was like, I’ll ask, but fat chance, buddy”.
An enduring love
Sarah did say yes to that first date, and another and another until the pair were wed one year later, exchanging vows on 20th July 1996 in a private ceremony.
A family affair
Married for nearly 25 years, Joel and Sarah live in the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California together with their two adorable sons, Eddie and Isaac.
Joel on Fatherhood
When asked by People what his biggest takeaway from fatherhood was, Joel joked that the biggest lesson he has learned is to not be half napping on his bed when “your 11-year old crawls over the top of you ready to do a double knee drop!”
Junk food is alright
In the same People interview, Joel was asked what son’s Eddie and Isaac( (pictured) can get away with when he’s in charge. The Community star confessed that it was junk food.
“They’ll be like ‘Can we have some ice cream?’ and I’ll be like, “And donuts? Because you have to eat both!'” joked Joel.
A devastating loss
While blessed to have two boys, Joel and Sarah have spoken openly about the heartache they went through when suffering a tragic miscarriage.
In an interview with US Weekly, Joel confessed that it was actually television Dr, Dr Drew Pinsky who helped them through it.
“This is very personal, but my wife had a miscarriage and we really consulted with him a lot,” the Netflix star shared.
“I was friends with him … he wasn’t our doctor, doctor, or her doctor, doctor, but I would call him, and he’s like, ‘That doesn’t sound right,’ or ‘That sounds OK’ It was just insanely sweet of him.
“It was so strange and wonderful that this very famous TV doctor was like, ‘Yeah, what’s going on?’ We’re forever in debt to that man.”
Genetic soup
Joel, who suffers from dyslexia, has spoken openly about the fact that he never knew that he had it until both of his boys were diagnosed with the same condition.
“So my sons are also dyslexic, one has been diagnosed and the doctor goes … she’s describing all the symptoms and I’m like, ‘That’s what I have,’” he said during an interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast.
“And she goes, ‘Oh, I was wondering which one it was because it’s passed down.”
A rough start
Joel and Sarah welcomed their first son, Edward Roy McHale 15 years ago, but it wasn’t all smooth sailing.
Eddie was born with two big holes in his heart, and as a newborn had to endure two open-heart surgeries.
Joel has spoken about how they got through that time, saying: “He was born with two large holes in his heart. It was horrific. We couldn’t believe it. But we just started dealing with it.”
He added: “Throughout the ward, there were all these kids who’d just had surgery who had gone through things that a kid should never have to go through. It was a dark tunnel, but we came out the other end. For other parents, it’s a tunnel that never ends. Thankfully, Edward is fine now.’
Joel uncovered a Joe Exotic secret …
Joel has most recently starred as the host of a Tiger King bonus episode titled The Tiger King and I, which reunited eight people featured in the Netflix #1 docuseries.
The biggest revelation was when Joe Exotic TV producer Rick Kirkham told Joel that the former GW Exotic Animal Park owner Joe ‘Exotic’ Maldonado-Passage is actually “terrified of big cats.”
“He was scared to death of lions and tigers,” Rick revealed to Joel in the 40-minute special.
