A round-up of Hamish Blake’s most hilarious and incredibly sweet parenting moments
All the times the 2023 Father of the Years nailed parenting.
When it comes to parenthood, it’s important to find the right balance between having fun and being a role model who your child can look up to and admire.
One celebrity who seems to be nailing fatherhood on all accounts is comedian, TV Week Gold Logie winner 2022 and LEGO Masters host, Hamish Blake.
Hamish, 41 and his wife, book author and Go-T0 skincare founder, Zoë Foster Blake, are parents to nine-year-old Sonny and six-year-old daughter Rudy.
Humour and fun seems to come naturally to Hamish and we’re sure you’ll agree that he’s not just a regular dad, he’s a cool dad who has recently added Father of the Year 2023 to his list of credits.
Here’s a round-up of some of his funniest parenthood moments.
The planning begins for Sonny’s 9th birthday cake
The funnyman continues his tradition of creating the birthday cakes that his kids Sonny and Rudy request. May 2023 sees Hamish in prep mode to create “solvable Rubiks Cube cake” for Sonny’s 9th birthday.
So far, according to his IG stories, he has researched 3D printers and created a design to help him creat the masterpiece.
“Can I do it?” he asks. “I actually think, probably not.”

Family adventures
Hamish and his wife Zoe make sure they spend quality one-on-one time with their kids. Ham took Sonny to Fraser Island for a boys’ own adventure in 2023. The family of four have also visited Japan together and ridden the Otage bike trail in New Zealand.
Hamish nails Sonny’s 8th birthday cake
In May 2022, Hamish revealed his mission for his son’s 8th birthday cake was to recreate Avatar: The Last Airbender, which is son whispered to him “as is tradition”.
The dad-of-two described his ‘loose’ idea a four-sided cake with Avatar on the top, reminding fans that the character controls earth, water, fire and air revealing his plan to have earth “exploding” out of the front of the cake.
Water would come from one side, air from the other and he said that he hoped that some for of pyrotechnic for fire would distract from the air element, which could be, he said, a “midnight problem”.
“This is the brief for my Son’s 8th birthday cake tonight. I already feel the familiar twang of this being too much, and the law of averages states I’m due for a flame out, but nevertheless, here we are,” he captioned his post. “I will begin posting about 7ish on my stories, if you feel like dropping by to watch a man crumble under the pressure of making a cartoon figure out of icing…”
Perhaps the biggest problem? Time. Hamish and wife Zoe Foster Blake had a charity ball to attend to. Hamish didn’t let that stop him – he took the icing with him!
The cake was a tough ask, but Hamish nailed it!
Hamish shared the importance of making memories with your kids
After a five-day camping trip with Sonny on the NSW Central Coast, Hamish wrote:
“Lots of dirt in the sleeping bags, fair bit in the breakfast, lots of Dad pretending he knows how to 4WD on sand (made it through thanks to some local legends offering tips and light heckling 😎), lots of walkie talkies from the front seat to the back seat (a must), time spend learning about the country and Aboriginal culture, hours of fire management, but mostly, just being together. Magic. Yes it involved some light wagging of school on his part (and of real life on my part) but I’m a big believer that you have to make time for things like this in advance or they don’t happen. I blocked this out at the start of the year and I reckon 20 things popped up for this week that I was able to say “sorry, I’m away camping” to, and people can’t really argue with that (especially since it’s well known I’m a professional camper). But if we hadn’t protected the time, the week would never come. I guess this is just me popping this out there in case you had the seed of a similar idea in your head. Doesn’t have to be grand, just needs a little time invested. Memory making is always worth it. 🏕”
Hamish shared a hilarious post of showing himself cooking dinner for Rudy
“A rare night home with just me and my little girl. To celebrate we had a couch picnic with her teddies where I swore I would cook her FAVOURITE food, no matter how hard….
Check out the adorable video below…
“No Teletubbies were harmed in the taking of this photo!”
Hamish and Rudy rocked their stinger suits during a visit to Queensland’s beautiful Whitehaven Beach.
“‘Tent time’ with my boy!”
Hamish whisked Sonny away from school for a few days camping at Seal Rocks in New South Wales.
The adventure list went something like this: “… marshmallow intake far above legal limits, rain soaked pillows, a first degree burn, sunrise on a sand dune, a jumper that smelled of petrol which required some explaining to mum (not related to the burn), an accidental visit to a nude beach, but most of all, marshmallows. I mean, time together (or, marshmallows, depending on who you ask).”
Winners are grinners!
Hamish was every day when he confessed to spending, “… a cheeky $20 on a sideshow basketball game today to win my girl a 45 cent stuffed dog!”
Night terror: The hilarious way that little Rudy woke up dad Hamish Blake in the middle of the night
Zoë Foster Blake zoomed in for a chat on Tuesday night’s episode of The Project to chat about her latest project, picture book Back to Sleep, ‘that celebrates the ups and downs of family life’.
And with a husband like Hamish Blake, and two hilarious little ones, the Go-To founder sure would have a tale or two to share, like the time Rudy woke up Hamish, who is arachnophobic, in the middle of the night to tell him there was a spider in the bathroom.
“Rudy recently woke up my husband saying there was a spider in the bathroom, and he should come and see it for a shock,” the beauty guru told guest panellist Annika Smethurst.
“He is arachnophobic, so that was a wake-up call for him!” she continued.
Big brother Sonny also knows how to give them a laugh or two. Zoë shared how he once interrupted grown-up time to inform them of a hair clip he had found in his bed.
“Sonny came downstairs one night when we were watching a very violent show, which is always terrible,” she said.
“He just said he couldn’t sleep because he found a hair clip in his bed.”

Alongside this hilarious but oh-so-adorable photo montage of Hamish sharing kisses with his daughter, Rudy, the comedian and television host, shared this sweet tribute to his birthday girl.
“My Rudy Bear. We may only achieve lip to lip coordination on one ninth of our kisses, but you are a shining beam of pure delight 100% of the time,” Hamish shared on Instagram.
“You’re 3, welcome to the club kid (I kept my membership from 35 years ago).”
While the Lego Masters host has baked epic cakes for his son’s birthday for years, this is the first time he’s made one for Rudy.
To celebrate his daughter’s third birthday, Hamish took to Instagram stories to explain that he initially thought he would be creating a “unicorn cake that pooped out glittery little (chocolate) turds”, but daughter Rudy, who Hamish shares with wife, Zoë Foster Blake, had a last-minute change of heart and requested a cake resembling her favourite toy, “Sheepy”.
After six hours of baking, the radio and tv star revealed the incredible finished cake at 2am.
Someone who is pleased with the COVID-19 restrictions easing is Hamish and his daughter, Rudy who decided to skip the polish and went straight for a quick Sharpie marker manicure.
“Daaaaaaamn it’s good to have my nail bar open again!” Hamish captioned the sweet pic.
He followed it with a string of hashtags including, #selfcare #fancyfingers #manimondays
As football codes were given the greenlight to resume play at the end of May, one fan (edit: four!) was mighty keen to get back to it.
“Great to be back out training with the fellas again but gee some of my teammates have gone haywire in the bloody iso face bush department,” Hamish captioned this image of six-year-old Sonny with various moustache filters.
“Pictured: Churnsy, R Jar, The BOOF, and Whispers. You boys are bloody mad but I love you.”
Hamish, this is absolute gold. Lol!
Hamish even manages to add humour into a sweet, gushy Mother’s Day tribute to his wife, Zoë Foster Blake.
“Our total babe hero mum. Whether quietly thinking of a million things that keep our family running (pictured), or being the most brilliant woman I know (pictured), or just being a total 15/10 smoke show (pictured) or just holding our daughter while you both think about cake (pictured), I never don’t feel like the luckiest man on earth to have a front row seat to your mumming.”
And I’m not swooning, you are.
As Sonny heads off to his first day of school, Hamish nails every parents thought about just how fast their kid is growing up.
“Power hug and suddenly he’s off to school! I know everyone says it goes fast but I am genuinely expecting his year 12 results by about next Thursday,” Hamish captions this sweet shot.
Here’s Sonny and Rudy playing with their Star Wars lightsabers.
Cute picture? Definitely.
But, of course, Hamish has the most witty caption to accompany it:
Star Wars Spoiler alert: turns out they were brother and sister.
