They did such a good job of keeping the gender a secret!

Huge congratulations to TV favourite Edwina Bartholomew who gave birth to a son, Thomas on March 1, a little brother for her two-year-old daughter, Molly.

Announcing on Instagram on March 3, the safe arrival of their second child, the Sunrise presenter and her husband Neil Varcoe have named their son Thomas Donald Elliott Varcoe.

Sharing the wonderful news, Edwina captioned her post:

Some small news from our family.
Thomas Donald Elliott Varcoe born on the 1st of March, 2022.
At such a difficult time for so many, many people, we hope Tom’s little face puts a smile on yours.

Edwina was last spotted on Thursday 24 February – a few days after her due date – looking relaxed with a gorgeous baby bump as she and her husband helped a tradie move some belongings, as reported by the Daily Mail.

The journalist took six months’ maternity leave after she had Molly and, thirty-six at the time and in the throes of COVID isolations, Edwina admitted that she found motherhood harder than she thought she would.

She was honest about her motherhood journey and admitted that those first weeks with a newborn was tough.

“When people told me parenting was hard, I nodded and smugly thought that 15 years of early mornings and overnight shifts would stand me in good stead. Well, well, well, wasn’t I blissfully naive,” Edwina wrote on Instagram just days after Molly’s arrival.
Talking to Australian Women’s Weekly when she was pregnant with her son, she said “You know what you’re in for and I’m not as worried or nervous this time around, because it all went quite well with Molly.”

In her third trimester, Edwina posted this image to IG: Big news day at our house. Big birthday for Dad @neilwrites. Big first day at daycare for Molly. Big lunch/nap for me. Credit: Instagram/Edwina_B

Following on from the exciting announcement, Edwina’s media friends and celebrities were quick to celebrate Tom’s safe arrival with their loving messages:

At six months pregnant, in August 2021, Edwina faced some backlash from anti-vaccine advocates on social media after getting her COVID vaccine. She admitted that she wouldn’t “waste time” arguing with them.

Footage of her getting the jab aired on Sunrise, after which the host clapped back at the “influencers” who criticised her for getting vaccinated while pregnant.

“For god’s sake, don’t take your health advice from Instagram influencers,” she said in response to the backlash.

“Speak to your GP, speak to your midwife, your obstetrician, the health experts in your life who know the data, know the details, and take your advice from them.”
