Chrissy Teigen busts open a wall in her home to rescue a missing hamster
'Peanut Butter' the hamster had been missing for three days when they heard a scratching in the wall.
Proving that she’s capable of just about anything, super-mum Chrissy Teigen has just rescued a family pet that had become stuck in a wall using a little DIY and some clever coaxing.
The family pet hamster, Peanut Butter, had been missing for three days when the 35yo Cravings cookbook author thought she heard some scratching in the walls of her Beverly Hills home.
Cue the rescue mission!
A hamster seems like an innocuous enough pet, but it’s not many hamster or guinea pig owners that don’t have a horror story of the cute little critters getting into places they’re not meant to be.
And superstars are not off limits.
Chrissy Teigen took to Instagram to share the tale of pet-rescue that occurred on Sunday night after she thought she heard some faint scratching within a wall.
The former Sports Illustrated star and some friends used a torch to check out the area when they realised that the scratching was the missing family pet, Peanut Butter.
“Rescue 911,” the jokester shared. “Peanut butter the hamster has been missing for 3 days. Is she in the wall??? Let’s find out.”
So what do you do when a hamster is stuck in a wall?
“Yeah, there is a whole in the wall. There’s wires,” Chrissy shared as she made the worrying discovery. “She’s using it like a rope to climb!”
Chrissy and co tried a few different approaches to free Peanut Butter before the clever star was able to chisel a hole in the wall and make contact with the missing hamster. The video shows a cute little hairy nose poking through the gap, but the gap is not big enough for a hamster escape.
So now what?
The Lip Sync Battle host made a bigger hole in the wall of her designer home and tried to lure Peanut Butter out with some treats. When this didn’t work Chrissy made the genius move of holding up a hamster ball with more treats in it to the hole and voila! Peanut Butter was safe and sound.
Chrissy – who shares daughter 5yo Luna Simone and son 3yo Miles Theodore with husband John Legend – welcomed Peanut Butter into the family late last year. This is the family’s second hamster after their first one, also named Peanut Butter, passed away.
Chrissy shared the news that their hamster shared the same name as their last hamster by joking: “That is the name. Don’t attack me!”
At the time of the loss of the OG Peanut Butter, Chrissy shared that Luna was doing “okay” in the wake of the loss.
“We are very open about life and death in the house and it was all good teachable moments,” Chrissy tweeted.
The family are also pet parents to: Pearl the basset hound, Penny the French bulldog, Paul/Pablo the English bulldog, Petey the poodle, Sebastian the bearded dragon, and two birds named Jasmine and Aladdin.
