"Was it always easy NO. Was it worth it YES YES YES."

Many fans were thrilled to see a familiar face back on their small screens this week, when Carrie Bickmore returned to her seat on The Project on Monday night.

The much-loved co-host and mum-of-three had just returned to Australia following a three-month family holiday in the UK and Europe.

Earlier that day, Carrie had shared an adorable photo with her partner Chris Walker and kids Ollie, Evie and Addie marking the end of their travels abroad.

“Soaked up every last bit of sunshine and vitamin D we could before returning home. Sunshine and ocean makes me so so happy ☀️. But can’t wait to see family and friends. ❤️,” she wrote.

After months of enviable European travel snaps, Carrie Bickmore is back behind the desk on The Project.

While chatting to Peter Helliar, who was filling in for co-host Tommy Little on their radio show Carrie & Tommy, Carrie told Pete he was one of the inspirations behind her decision to travel for three months with her partner, Chris Walker and kids Ollie, 14, Evie, six and Addie, four.

“You had chatted to us about how you had been overseas with your kids, and I remember you talking about that as one of the greatest times of your life, and I remember us talking about that a lot as we decided what we should do,” Carrie told him.

Peter Helliar admitted he had been “envious” of her trip but Carrie reminded him that Instagram is only a highlights reel.

“It didn’t all go to plan, and there were lots of times when it was really, really hard. Living away with three kids – kids are hard enough at the best of times, and living in a new place without your support network around … Addie [Bickmore’s three-year-old daughter Adelaide] found it really hard for a long time,” she shared honestly.

“She was a baby born around COVID times, and just likes being at home. All of a sudden we were dragging her on planes all over the world.”

But Carrie said they were already forgetting “the tricky bits” and instead treasuring the memories they made together.

“I asked Evie what her favourite thing about the entire trip was, and it was and the exact same thing as me, and it was picking her up from school every afternoon.”

Even Carrie’s 14-year-old son agreed and commented on the family trip: “I feel like I know my little sisters so much better now.”

In another Instagram post, Carrie reflected on the family trip writing:

“And so comes to an end the most incredible few months…. Was it perfect NO Was it always easy NO Was it worth it YES YES YES Nothing worthwhile comes easily. I am just so glad we had a crack.
Memories made that we’ll talk about forever ❤️”

Fans appreciated Carrie for her honesty and reminding others that no one’s life is perfect all the time.

“One of the best things about you Carrie is your honestly! So much pretending on Insta- thanks for being ‘real’ ❤️🙌” commented a fan.

Added another: “Life is bittersweet not one without the other. How amazing was your time away ❤️”
