“I was having a miscarriage the night before the biggest show of my career.”

Tones and I, the Dance Monkey singer, has shared a deeply personal and heartbreaking experience with her fans, revealing that she suffered a miscarriage just hours before the biggest performance of her career.

In an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, Tones opened up about the loss she experienced ahead of her Melbourne show on November 9.

Tones, whose real name is Toni Watson, shared her heartbreaking story, which occurred on stage during a rehearsal.

Surrounded by a choir, dancers, and a large production crew, she was in the middle of rehearsing her first song, To Be Loved, when she realised she was miscarrying.

“The day before the biggest show of my career so far, I was in rehearsals with 30 choir, 30 dancers and 50 crew, our final dress rehearsals after years of dreaming and months of organising, I was at the point of the show where I just hit the big note in “to be loved” the first song off my latest album,” recalls Tones.

“As I hit the big note, I felt blood running down my legs,” she wrote. “I was nine weeks pregnant.”

She admitted that she hadn’t been prepared to share her pregnancy news. “It was definitely something I wasn’t planning on telling people and I was completely prepared to resort back to the baggy jumpers and pants I once was known for. But here I was almost 100% I was having a miscarriage the night before the biggest show of my career,” she said.

Tones and her husband, Jimmy Bedford, quickly left rehearsal and went to the hospital. “We were at the hospital by 8:30 pm, and the pain started to kick in,” she recalled. “After not sleeping that night, I was told I was having a miscarriage.”

The next morning, doctors advised Tones to stay home and rest, telling her that performing was not possible. “I was told around 11am the day of the show that the show would not be possible and I would have to stay in and rest,” she said.

Despite the medical advice, Tones felt an immense responsibility toward the people who had worked so hard to make the show a reality. “I knew there was no way I could let everyone down,” she said. “I promised that I would be back.”

Tones pushed through the pain and arrived at the venue just in time for her meet and greets and the end of soundcheck. “Off stage felt like a blur,” she shared. “But as soon as I stepped on stage, I felt carried. It was unlike any show I have ever performed. I was lifted by my family on and off stage who knew nothing.”

Tones described the performance as one of the most meaningful of her career, even though she was grappling with grief and physical pain. She went on to explain how she kept the experience to herself throughout the night. “I told three people that night, and I let the energy of everyone else carry me through this moment,” she said. “I wanted it to be a night I would never forget.”

After the show, Tones returned to the hospital for surgery, where she had to undergo a procedure the following morning.

“I went back to the hospital where the next morning the surgery was completed,” she said.

Tones finshed her post with heartfelt gratitude toward those who supported her during this incredibly difficult time.

“I have to say thank you to my team and my family for lifting me through what was truly one of my biggest triumphs and my saddest moments. I am not a sharer and it’s scary to even write these words. I just want to say thank you. So much. To everyone that was there with me that night.”

“In our most vulnerable moments, in sharing our darkness we gift light to others who may take strength knowing they are not alone. Thank you for always being a light to so many. I’m incredible sorry for your loss. Sending so much love ♥️,” wrote Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause.
