Smiling mother and child lay on Teddy box mattress

Simple to use and with a price tag you won’t be losing sleep over, the Teddy Junior LUX mattress in a box is a game changer!

Changing mattresses in my home is always a challenge thanks to a set of pesky, enclosed corner stairs. On more than one occasion we’ve had to haul furniture up and over the upstairs balcony using a rope pulley system to save ourselves a Friends “pivot, pivot” situation.

So when the folks at Teddy Beds sent me the Junior LUX Mattress to try, I was keen to see how a boxed mattress actually worked. When it arrived in a regular sized, light weight box it almost seemed too good to be true. How was something so compact going to deliver a quality mattress that my ever-growing son would find comfort on?

I needn’t have worried, within minutes I understood the growing adoration for box mattresses and their seemingly physics-defying properties.

A mattress that comes in a box is a tricky image to get your head around if you’ve not seen it for yourself. However the concept is quite simple … picture peeling yourself out of shapewear after a visit to a buffet dinner!

Vacuum sealed to fit inside a box, and expanding in only a matter of minutes to go from box to bed, mattress boxes are taking the pain out of manoeuvring bulky, awkward mattresses in your home, particularly the tight corners found in a kids’ room!

A machine washable cover? Yes please!

For me, the most valuable feature of this clever creation is fact that the outer cover is removable and machine washable, perfect for my little night-sweater!

Add to that the fact that this mattress is designed to grow with my child, taking them to adulthood and it’s easy to see the ROI benefits.

The teddy jr. Lux Mattress contains two sleeping surfaces for different age groups, the first of which is a firm, high density foam called ZoneScape™ which uses a five zone design and airflow foam technology. When this layer is positioned on top, the mattress is recommended for children aged 2-4.

As your child grows, it’s time to switch to the second layer of the mattress, which is a softer, high density foam called NATURFLEX™ which is made of Bamboo Charcoal infused Memory Foam. When this layer is positioned on top, the mattress is recommended for children aged 5-18.

Plus with doable price tag, a 120 night trial period and a 10 year warranty offer, nobody will be losing sleep!

Why choose a mattress in a box?

Perhaps most surprising, is the fact that their box-sized delivery is not a compromise on quality. In fact many mattress in a box options offer superior comfort and features that make sleeping in the unique Australian climate a joyful experience. And if there’s one thing parents want, it’s their kids being comfortable and staying put for a good night’s sleep, right?

Your guide to buying a mattress-in-a-box

Buying a mattress in a box can be convenient and straightforward. Follow these tips for choosing the the right one.

Can you sleep on a mattress out of a box straight away?

At a minimum, let your new mattress expand, reshape, and air out after delivery. For maximum comfort, longer mattress life, and the best sleep experience, allow it to do so for 24 hours before using it.

Know your mattress types

  • Memory Foam: Great for pressure relief and motion isolation.
  • Latex: Offers good bounce, responsiveness, and cooling properties.
  • Hybrid: Combines coils and foam for support and comfort.
  • Innerspring: Traditional and supportive with a bouncy feel.

Look for cooling features

Hot sleepers should look for mattresses with cooling gel, breathable covers, or hybrid designs that promote airflow.
