An organised home is a happy home.

By Natalie Manoushian, founder of Little Label Co.

Organisation is all about living minimally, getting rid of the things you don’t use, implementing good systems in your home to ensure you are spending less time managing the clutter and more time doing the things you love.

Here are a few easy organisation hacks every mum needs to promote healthier eating habits and help create a clean and happy space for all.

10 home organisation hacks

Labels for the win

Labels will change how you organise your home. Label every single zone and storage solution in sight to ensure that the system you put into place is worthwhile. There is nothing worse than having an unlabelled organised space where everything is neatly packed away, yet nothing is easily identifiable.

Clear descriptive labels will help you and the rest of the household find items easily, and make sure they are put back where they belong. Once something is labelled, it has a permanent home. Little Label Co vinyl custom labels are a great way to personalise your storage containers in style.

Clever storage solutions

Having efficient storage solutions in your home can make a world of difference. Large containers, baskets and caddies are great solutions to keep everything organised around the home. It also gives all your items a permanent home.

By having everything neatly organised and categorised in their own spaces it is quicker to locate, a breeze to return where it belongs, and this is not just for you but for everyone living and sharing the same space.

Make a plan

For busy parents effective scheduling is crucial for running a stress-free happy household. When all else seems out of control, using a planner to prioritise and plan tasks, errands, appointments and meal plans will keep you feeling organised and on top of your daily life decreasing your overall stress and giving you more time to do other important things.

Declutter regularly

De-cluttering isn’t something that you can forever tick off the list. Organisation requires constant maintenance to ensure you are on top of it. Make small changes, cull regularly and make de-cluttering a part of your routine. The rule is if you haven’t used it for six months, get rid of it.

Invest in quality pantry & fridge containers

Investing in good quality containers/jars makes items easily identifiable, accessible and promotes healthier eating for the whole family. Not only are they great to keep your produce and dry ingredients fresher for longer but having cut up fruit/veggies stored in clear containers means they are easier to grab and go, this way we are making healthier food choices and allows you to plan healthier meals and snacks ahead of time.

Also, have an ‘Eat Me First’ tub for anything perishable that needs to be consumed quickly.

Set zones and create a ‘home’ for everything

Establish ‘zones’. This is so important for growing families. An area for work/homework, a drop off zone for shoes, an area for stationery/craft, etc. When you have stations dedicated to specific tasks, you will be able to locate what you need quickly.

Rotation bins in the toy room

Let’s face it, no matter how well we organise our kids’ play areas, those little hands are going to un-do your hard work in a matter of seconds. Create ‘rotation bins’ to get the most use out of all their toys.

When they start to get bored with a particular bunch of toys, simply put them back in their bin, store them away, and bring out another bin they haven’t played with for a while. Not only will this method keep your toy room neater but keeps the kids interested with new items to play with.

Go paperless where you can

Going paperless will not only give you more usable floorspace or cupboard space, it will also ensure your document storage is more secure plus it is much better for the environment.

If you can’t throw them out, document organisers are a great way of keeping paperwork contained, secure and in one spot. Little Label Co. acrylic document organiser is perfect for storing your important documents and keepsakes.

Utilise vertical space in your home

This is a great hack for saving space. When you lack or run out of shelf space consider going up. Make most of your vertical space by using tiered shelves, stackable storage solutions and wall mounted solutions like shelves, pegboards and hooks.
