"I'm trying to get them to call me 'lovey'"

Just last month Aussie musical megastar, Sia revealed that she’d adopted two teenage sons who were ageing out of the Foster Care system, and now she’s let the world know that one them has made her a grandmother … twice!

In a recent interview with DJ, Zane Lowe, the 44-year-old Chandelier singer compared herself to a “grandma” because of the way that she worries, before adding the kicker … “My youngest son just had two babies! I’m a f—ing grandma!”

“They call me ‘Nana,'” the mum-of-two said, before confessing: “I’m trying to get them to call me ‘lovey’ — like Kris [Jenner’s grandchildren do]!”

New to motherhood, Sia let the emotions of her new role out when she spoke about her sons, both 19 and both people of colour, in relation to what is going on in the world right now.

The Cheap Thrills singer sobbed as she admitted, “I’m embarrassed that it took me to adopt two Black sons to really understand what they go through on a daily basis.” She added that she’s “very scared” for them.

The singer also shared that her sons have brought her a lot of joy.

“One recently came out, and he’s just blossoming and is the light of my life,” she said. “I love him so much. I’m just trying to do my best for them.”

In an interview last month with Nova 96.9’s Fitzy and Wippa Sia confessed that while she’d originally planned on having her own children, her divorce saw her go down the adoption route.

“I bought this massive house, I was married at the time and then I got a divorce. All my embryos are with that dude so I thought I was gonna have loads of children but I can’t now so I adopted two.”

Speaking to a US radio show, Sia said she adopted the boys when they were due to leave foster care because of their age.

“I actually adopted two sons last year. They were both 18 – they’re both 19 years old now,” she revealed.

“They were ageing out of the foster care system, Yeah, and I love them.”

Sia also spoke with Fitzy and Wippa about how the boys had been coping amidst the coronavirus pandemic and said that one in particular had been struggling with the social restrictions.

“They are both finding it pretty difficult, one more so than the other. But they’re both doing things that are really good for them right now, that are really helpful. They’re really doing a lot of educational stuff that’s good for them,” she said.

Sia first spoke about becoming a mum in January, 2020 during a GQ interview.

The 44-year-old singer was chatting about her close friend, British rapper, Diplo (the two are part of pop group, LSD) when she casually dropped the adoption news:

“Much of our relationship is just being spent trying not to have sex so that we wouldn’t ruin our business relationship, because he’s super-duper hot,” Sia teased.

“This year I wrote him a text, and I said, ‘Hey, listen, you’re like one of five people that I’m sexually attracted to, and now that I’ve decided to be single for the rest of my life and I just adopted a son, I don’t have time for a relationship.”

Sia was previously married to documentarian Erik Lang. The two split in 2016.
